Financial Fitness, Fueling Personal Growth

The Financial Gym (TFG), a personal financial services company with a fitness inspired approach to clients’ financial health, raised debt funding from Star Strong Capital to meet the demand of their increasingly popular financial advisory service dedicated to the average American from all financial backgrounds.

After 17 years experience in finance managing global operations, the author of Train Your Way to Financial Fitness (Amazon), Shannon McLay, founded New York City-based The Financial Gym in 2015, inspired by her work as a financial planner for Merrill Lynch where she began helping clients on her own time who did not meet the qualifying client profile. For a monthly flat fee, TFG offers one-to-one coaching with certified financial trainers (a certification program developed by McLay). 'Fitness' Trainers work with clients to achieve financial goals such as improving credit scores, paying for education, purchasing a home, traveling, or planning for retirement.

TFG has achieved great success since its inception, its popularity advanced with appearances by McLay on The Today Show, and TFG being featured in The New York Times, Forbes and Business Insider to name only a few. McLay has also created a popular educational podcast series Martinis and Your Money – Living a Better Life One Cocktail at a Time; education is clearly a key component to TFG's service. TFG measures its success by tracking client impact -- within 6 months,

  • 90% of clients achieve their financial goals

  • The median client achieves a 231% increase in net worth

  • Achieves a 13 point increase in credit score

"I set out on a mission over eight years ago to change the financial lives of people of all financial shapes and sizes; and never has our mission been more important than in the world we're living in with high inflation, stagnating wages, and volatile global markets."

To meet increasing demand and drive forward the mission of financial fitness for all, TFG plans to hire and certify additional trainers, focus on enterprise level program and technology services including Trainer on Demand, where corporate employees are given access to certified trainers, and expand the already successful certified financial trainer program. TFG needed capital to realize these growth goals, and was ultimately referred to Star Strong Capital, who was impressed with TFG's vision, impressive traction, and future trajectory. "The Financial Gym offers an affordable option for the financially underserved to achieve their life goals," said Spring Hollis, Founder & CEO of Star Strong Capital. "We are delighted to be able to assist Shannon McLay and her management team in their aspirations for the next exciting chapter of TFG."
